Rwanda appointed its Ambassador to Japan to also be the Ambassador to Thailand while Thailand appointed its Ambassador to Kenya to also be the Ambassador to Rwanda. The first Ambassador of Rwanda presented his credentials in Thailand in 2007.
Rwanda and Thailand have excellent bilateral relations characterized by mutual interest and respect. In October 2010, the then Rwandan Rt. Hon. Prime Minister, Mr. Bernard MAKUZA with his delegation of high ranking officials from various public institutions as well as the Private Sector Federation (PSF) visited Thailand and held discussions with the then Prime Minister of Thailand, Mr. Abhisit VEJJAJIVA. They also had a meeting with the Trade Commissioner and officials of the Investment Board, Chamber of Commerce and Captains of industry. A Thai delegation headed by the Director General for the Department of South Asian, Middle East and African Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs also visited Rwanda in January 2014. The Ambassador of Thailand to Rwanda with residence in Nairobi, Kenya visits Rwanda several times a year.
Bilateral cooperation is limited to few short term trainings in Thailand has been offering to Rwandans by Thailand’s International Cooperation Agency (TICA) and by other organizations such as FAO or FIDA.
Rwanda and Thailand are exploring ways to intensify cooperation in areas such as agriculture development and a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) is under consideration. Other area being explored in which to exchange experiences includes tourism promotion, Vocational and Technical Education.
